The Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation

Over 20 years ago, The Mikel Foundation funded the meeting of a support group of families with a newly identified genetic disorder in Greenville, South Carolina. At that time, the community was comprised of 20 families, mostly in the state. Over the years, with the continued support of The Mikel Foundation, the group has grown to a self-sufficient foundation with over 2,000 families worldwide that supports families, advocates for families of special needs at state and federal levels, funds ground-breaking research, and raises awareness worldwide.
